Basically, the idea of the bread and butter pudding recipe has come to use stale bread. The original concept arose out of necessity as a way to prevent food waste rather than throwing the stale sliced bread. 

It is one type of recycling of waste food. Stale bread is not too good to eat because it was difficult to chew and not so tasty. Plus stale bread is not good for health. In this case, this dessert evolved. It was very popular in the lower class of England, that is why it is also called  “poor man’s pudding”.

Method And Description

1st step

First of all, heat the oven 180o or 160oC. Take an oven-proof dish, about 23x28cm/9x11in size. Take the bread and apply butter on each and every side of the bread.  Then cut into small pieces.

2nd Step

Arrange the bread properly and apply the butter side and bottom of the dish then add sultans. Then add on sprinkle with cinnamon. 

3rd Step

Gently heats the milk and cream in a saucepan over low heat to a scalding point. Add eggs and 3-quarters sugar into the bowl and lightly whisk until pale. Then add the warm milk with cream and let them stir well. Then pour the mixture onto the prepared bread pieces. 

Plus, don’t forget to sprinkle some nutmeg and lemon zest, and remaining sugar and leave them to stand for 30 min. 

4th Step

This is the last step. Place the dish into the preheated oven and bake for 30-40 min until the bread is becoming golden brown. Now it is ready to eat. 😋

What Is Bread Pudding?

Ingredients: you have to take 4 eggs and ½ cup of Chelsea white sugar. Along with this, 1 tbsp Vanilla Essence with 2 cups milk. And, 3 thick slices of fruit bread (if you want fresh white bread you can use that), 60gm butter, and ¼  tbsp ground nutmeg. 

Method: first, place eggs, and Chelsea white sugar with vanilla essence in a bowl and mix them for 1 min.

Second, whisk in milk then pour into a 1.5 lit capacity ovenproof casserole dish. 

Third, apply butter to the slice of the bread or you can cut the bread into quarters and spread the butter as well. After that, place them on top of the custard.

Fourth, garnish with nutmeg and place them on a stand dish in a baking tray of water and bake them at 150oC for 1 1/2 hours. Ready to serve.
